Burrage shines in Dubai with fourth ITF crown

04-04-2021

Jodie Burrage won her fourth professional singles title at W25 Dubai to cap a strong week for British players on the ITF World Tennis Tour.

Burrage collected her first title in 23 months, and her second at W25 level following her triumph at W25 Jerusalem in May 2019, thanks to a 6-4 6-3 win over Belarus’ Yulia Hatouka.

Compatriot Fran Jones also impressed on Argentine soil at W25 Villa Maria, ultimately finishing runner-up to Beatriz Haddad Maia, who won their title tussle 5-7 6-4 6-2.

The result marked a 13th ITF crown for the Brazilian, her first of the year, while Jones narrowly missed out on a sixth professional title, having secured five tournament wins at ITF tournaments on clay to date.

Anna Kubareva also made it a good week for Belarus, improving on Hatouka’s runner-up finish in Dubai by claiming her second ITF title – and first in two years – with victory at W15 Monastir.

The 20-year-old cruised past Italian Angelica Raggi 6-1 6-1 to cap a week that had seen her record back-to-back match-wins for the first time in 2021.

Romanian Andreea Prisacariu secured her fourth title – and second of the year at W15 Antalya – after defeating 17-year-old Spaniard Ane Mintegi Del Olmo 6-3 7-5.

New Zealand’s Paige Hourigan completed the list of women’s winners over the weekend, claiming her third ITF singles title after beating Czech Anna Siskova 3-6 6-1 6-2 in the final at W15 Sharm El Sheikh.

The triumph was her third on a hard court – and her first since winning at W15 Cancun two years ago.
